Health Insurance, access to the health care system

In case your social security is linked to another country than your country of residence, you need to apply for a ""special health insurance card". The card will give you free access to the health insurance system in your country of residence and in Denmark.

You need to do the following:

  • Fill out the form "Special health Insurance Card" (on lifeindenmark.borger.dk)
  • Submit the form (E106) to the sick-benefit association/the National Health Service in order to obtain free access to the health insurance system in your country of residence (equally as a secured citizen in Denmark)
  • The special health insurance card also allow you free access to the Danish health insurance system
  • Remember your health insurance card when visiting the health insurance system

 

Checklist when going abroad

  • What is your situation with regard to tax?
  • Your right to social security
  • What about home- and content insurances? (unsubscribe to the insurances that do not cover during your stay abroad)
  • Bring the blue health insurance card if going to another EU country
  • If leaving Denmark for more than 6 months contact the "Folkeregister" to de-register
  • Inform PostNord about your new address
  • Do you need a residence and work permit for the stay? Or a visa?
  • Accommodation
  • Remember to hand in your tax liability to the Tax authorities in Denmark
  • When returning to Denmark remember to register at Folkeregistreret (visit ICS or Lifeindenmark
  • Ved udrejse over 6 måneder, husk at kontakte Folkeregistret
